This huge island (3600*1600mm) with wrap around ends and custom profile was installed in Norwich. All edges had a 25 degree bevel on the underside of the overhang, with the edge left at 5mm it created a birds-beak detail at perpendicular joints. One side of the island incorporated large returns back from the overhang also at 25 degrees on both the horizontal and vertical sections. The overlaps and steps of these pieces together with the compound angles create an interesting feature.
Caesarstone quartz was chosen for its durability as it is a public space. Shitake was a very close match to other materials also in the building and its strength made the intricate design possible.
